Gawker On Zuckerberg’s Resignation

From the networks, Gawker’s Valleywag tackles the resignation of founding FaceBook CEO Mark Zuckerberg who resigned from the company after a threesome of disastrous corporate decisions. The first nail in his corporate coffin was the revision of the FaceBook TOS debacle which angered so many users they flooded the site with negative publicity and everything in between. It even got the attention of lawmakers who informed them that the move as an utter disregard for their initial statement. The company revised their view of owning everything that was uploaded to their servers after, well, a ton of headaches, calls, email and some bottles of aspirin maybe.

Well, as if these people need more publicity, it seems the transparency of the social web is still the main detrimental factor which makes the internet dangerous. Gawker Adopts Creative Commons Standards and a whole lot More

gawker1Gawker media, one of the blogosphere’s biggest blog networks has adopted the Atribution-NonCommercial license for all their original content which makes them one of the few networks who allows use of their materials for free. This doesn’t however a free for all fir there are limitations on how, what and where such original content can be used which can be found in their very extensive Legal Page. This maybe the trend for most of the blogosphere’s biggest names for as said in a previous post, policing content is a practice in futility. The practice of plagiarism is quite widespread and it seems the wide expanse of the internet and the many social networks that inter-twine in between have been so much for people to search fpor instances of content copying they simply gave up.

johnFrom the Blog herald: The recent issue that involved John Stewart on his unwarranted rap on social media or the new internet is a bit unwarranted for as the post in the Blog Herald says (by : Chris Garett), there are a lot of truths but also misconceptions about the whole social thingy. First, for example blogging, it started out as a medium on the internet where anybody who wanted to write about anything (mostly their pitiful lives and their utter uselessness roles in society), much like newspapers of days past which started out as mere advert pages that were finally congealed into a more compressed form that included advertising as well as some useful stuff to gain the interest of the reader. Get hold of any newspaper (if you can still find one) and what do you see? Headlines, articles, commentary and advertisements, wait a minute, ads. We’re getting warmer! Don’t tell me you haven’t earned a buck from social media(your bosses companies sure have!)

Blogging your way through this Recession

copypasteThe global economy is down and more people lose jobs, luckily the social web has blogging and other writing jobs that allows you to pass time and earn some cash in the process. Sadly however, blogs have also been hit hard with many networks losing so much money they have been forced to cut back on people.
Putting all the negative stuff aside, blogging remains to be a wide open space for those who seek to earn a living through one of the products of the social internet. The only problem, even this form of media isn’t safe from people who are motivated by greed, earning a buck or two out of your hard earned blog posts. From “Copy-Paste” artists to scammers, they use or hijack blogs for their own benefit leaving you out of the equation. Shiny Media Cuts Staff

As reported on the Blog Herald, UK-based Shiny Media has cut back on staff. Shiny also reports that one of its co-founders, Katie Lee, is no longer working as editorial director. In a press release, Shiny points to the economic crunch, which necessitated cost-saving measures to ensure long-term stability.

We have held on as long as we could without restructuring the business but we now have to make those changes to secure the long-term stability of Shiny.

It is with huge regret that we are having to part company with several members of our team. They are very talented and extremely likable individuals, however ultimately in the current climate we are faced with no choice but to let them go.

The decision for Katie Lee to leave was her own, as she reasons the “time is right to leave the business.” She still remains a shareholder in the network, though, and has contributed much in the development of various niche blogs that belong to the network.

Chris Price remains as the last of the company’s founders with active involvement in the network.

b5media Severs Ties with Shai Coggins

As reported over at the Blog Herald, b5media has severed ties with several bloggers and managers, including co-founder Shai Coggins.

In a memo circulated within b5media’s staffers, and subsequently shared with a few bloggers outside of the network, founder Jeremy Wright cited economic reasons for the move.

[I]t appears that this move was due to some belt-tightening measures that the company has had to do in line with its trimming of costs, refocusing of strategies and exploring of new opportunities.

Shai Coggins is the founder of About Weblogs, which merged with b5media in 2005 to form one of the larger blog networks at the time.
