BlogNetworkList.com Sold 1
Webby Media reports:
Weblogs Inc sold their blog network to AOL.
Price tag: $25 million.
I sold my blog network list to Blog Media.
Price tag: not quite $25 million.
I started BlogNetworkList.com a month ago just as a fun project to practice a little CSS programming. I never actually intended to do anything with the website other than create a 1-page resource to find all blog networks.
Yesterday, I got an email from the guys at Blog Media saying they were interested in buying my site. A few emails back an forth… then we sealed the deal.
I love making deals, but the funny thing is that this website was low priority on my web radar. I didn’t have a commercial motive in mind when I was building it, but I still received a nice return on my effort. Blog Media also got a great deal because the list will fit perfectly with their BlogNetworkWatch.com property.
The take-away point here is to build websites that are unique and interesting. I could’ve just built a plain-jane blog network directory (and I’m sure someone else will). But there’s really nothing unique or interesting about a directory of links. Instead, I borrowed Nick Douglas’ brilliant a-list idea, applied it to the blog networks, and packaged it into a nice 1-page listing.
We note that Blog Network List has already been transitioned into its new home as well.
